Southern Korea exports continue to rise |
South Korea's exports of information and communication technology products saw a robust increase of over 30% in May, driven by rising global demand.
According to data from the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT, the value of these exports reached $19.05 billion last month, marking a 31.8% increase from $14.45 billion during the same period last year, and achieving growth for the seventh consecutive month.
On the other hand, South Korea's imports of ICT products rose by 2.4% year-on-year to $11.48 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $7.57 billion in this sector.
Exports of semiconductors increased by 52.4% year-on-year, reaching $11.39 billion, due to the growing global demand for chips driven by the expansion of the AI market and a recovery in the IT device sector.
Sales of display panels also rose by 15.3%, reaching $1.85 billion, driven by increased demand for televisions and personal computers.
Similarly, mobile phone exports grew by 10.8% year-on-year to $1.02 billion, while shipments of computers and peripherals surged by 42.5% to $1.18 billion. However, exports of communication equipment declined by 10.7% to $180 million.
